The use of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) nonstick coatings is a three coat system. Three coats are applied to the fasteners, first a corrosion resistant base, then an adhesion coating and finally a fluoropolymer topcoat. All the coatings are essential for the long-lasting life of the bolts. PTFE coatings possess the highest operating temperature. Added benefits are a low coefficient of friction and a good resistance to chemical.

Xylan 1070

Xylan 1070 provides low friction coating and with higher corrosion resistance to the oxidation and high temperatures. Similar to Xylan 1424, this coating is ideal for leak prevention for valves, vessels, tanks etc. in harsh environments.

It is widely used for fasteners in the marine industry, in particular for drilling platform construction in the North Sea. Its main features are that it combines with good corrosion resistance with dry lubrication. The main benefits are it can significantly reduce the torque required for a given pre- load, much greater accuracy of pre- load for a given applied torque. Good protection against salt water corrosion eases of break out of nuts leading to ease of maintenance.
